The Federal Highway Safety Administration has announced a new oversight initiative aimed at improving oversight of state highway departments.
The new approach allows FHWA to more clearly and easily identify bridge issues in each state by revising data is receives from the states. According to the government, the new system will be based upon more objective data.
The FHWA will also strengthen its audit oversight of state highway departments.
