According to a recent poll by EarthFix, a majority of residents of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho support the shipping of crude oil by rail through the Pacific Northwest, pointing to a division of opinions regarding the transport of crude oil via rail.
The group sponsoring the research, EarthFix, chose to poll residents in the tri-state area on the crude oil by rail debate. Fifty-six percent of the 1200 respondents supported the shipment of crude by rail. Clearly, the residents see the value of this trade for both their state and local economies, contrary to myriads of media reports.
In fact, two-thirds polled believe the railroads maintain good safety records, while only thirty-two percent of respondents said all shipments must stop.
