About a dozen people were a receptive audience for the message from Nebraskans for Jobs and Energy Independence – that the Keystone XL pipeline provides a safe method for transporting crude oil excavated from the oil sands from Alberta, Canada, to Texas oil refineries.
Nebraskans for Jobs and Energy Independence, whose website describes it as “a committed group of Nebraskans who believe that our state can play a key role in the future of U.S. energy policy,” did not make that case itself.
Rather, it had a three-person panel made up of Brigham McCown, a lawyer who served as deputy administrator of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration in the George W. Bush Administration; Michael Whatley, executive vice president of Consumer Energy; and J. Berton “Bert” Fisher, a hydro-geologist at the University of Tulsa and a private consultant who is a founding member of Lithochimeia.
