Various industries, universities, and consumer organizations have launched the American Shale & Manufacturing Partnership, a creation meant to search for government policies that don’t act against shale development. The primary object of the group is to remind policy makers of the importance of improving shale facilities.
Karen Herbert, president of US Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for 21st Century Energy, cites that the jobs created by shale energy – 2.1 million plus currently, with another 1.25 million projected over the next decade- are a factor demonstrating the relevance that the industry has in the U.S. Another member of the ASMP, Jay Timmons, with the National Association of Manufacturers Pres., stated that US manufacturers account for a third of total US energy demand- highlighting the need to provide affordable and reliable sources to maintain competitiveness globally.
Several members of the ASMP all assure that shale gas development will be highly regulated, and they feel this can be best done with minimal to no interference by the federal government.
