Pipelines are among the safest modes of transporting hazardous materials across long distances and the rules regarding construction are clearly mandated through regulations. In the case of the Keystone XL pipeline, we have seen a routine infrastructure project turned into a political farce.
TransCanada has been waiting over six years to obtain necessary permission to complete Keystone XL. Despite the company’s request to the Secretary of Transportation to pause the review process, President Obama today rejected its application in what many consider to be a politically motivated move.
