Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources, Mike King, is also a staunch supporter of fracking in a state that seems to not want it. In a recent interview, King gave his thoughts on fracking and its opposition, why it’s important to Colorado, and other such topics.
When questioned about a people’s desire for a statewide ban on fracking, King states that it would be detrimental to the state’s economy- especially as the vast majority of people who live in fracking areas are not unhappy with it. While King maintains that he understands the people’s concerns, he believes that they can be rationally addressed and resolved. To those worried about air and water quality, he assures that the state that they can implement “the best air quality rule in the country.”
King also stated his pleasure at the direction that discussions about the impacts of oil and gas have taken, noting that they have become rational. Though King admits that he would not like to have his family living near to a rig, and voiced his surprise at finding one across from their mountain cabin, he also states that he will not keep someone from exercising their property rights- even if that means having a rig unpleasantly close to home.
