ATA sues FMSCA over new driver rest rules

The American Trucking Association (ATA) says the newest round of driver work rules are unreasonable and damaging to a driver’s salary. Under the new rule, a driver’s hours will be more closely monitored; drivers are also mandated to take a 30-minute break after working seven consecutive hours.

Critics argue the rule limits the number of hours a driver can spend working every day and week, and believe the regulations will end up keeping some drivers off-duty for longer periods of time between work weeks.

The ATA is suing the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration in hopes of getting the rules re-worked.
